The Blue Dot puffer also known as the Blue Dot Toby or Sharp-nosed Puffer is a medium maintenance fish. The Blue Dot Puffer may be aggressive at times. It may even nip the fins of tank mates, leaving a circular hole as its mark. It has fused beak-like structured teeth. It prefers to eat invertebrates. The Blue Dot Puffer does this, as it needs to keep its own teeth worn down. It becomes alarmed when in a net, so a container should be used to transfer it. The Blue Dot Puffer is a hardy fish and it is not reef compatible. The marine tank setup for this fish should be either coral or rock

The Blue Dot puffer mainly lives on or around coral reefs, while others prefer lagoons or bays. The Blue Dot Puffer, when frightened or distressed may inflate itself and it would become twice its size. So it’s not advisable to expose it to air, as ingestion of air is difficult to expel. Continuous ingestion of air may even lead to death of this fish. When Blue Dot Puffer ingests air, its spines are held straight out from the body. This would discourage other predators which would try to eat it. The blue dot puffer is a venomous fish and hence it is not fit for human consumption. If ingested, medical attention is immediately required. It becomes alarmed when in a net, so a container should be used to transfer it. The Blue Dot Puffer uses the pectoral fins to move about the aquarium, as it lacks pelvic fins.
