The Raccoon Butterfly fish is a hardy and attractive addition to any aquarium.

This butterfly fish is found throughout the Pacific Ocean, Indian Ocean, and Red Sea. There are slight pattern variations that indicate the regions of origin, however, the attributes of these fish remains the same. Raccoon Butterfly Fish will eat most foods offered including flake food, mussels, and clams. They do not eat any of the Marine algae. Raccoon Butterfly fish are generally not reef safe, but some people have reported success keeping them in a miniature reef.

As with all butterfly fish the Raccoon Butterfly fish is not an aggressive species and does well in a community aquarium. The Red Sea Raccoon Butterfly fish is the most sought after of these butterfly fish.

The Raccoon Butterflyfish is a shy and peaceful species from the tropical Indo-Pacific. The body of the fish is yellow in color with various black markings including around the eyes, hence its common name.

Growing to 8" in length, a good-sized aquarium of at least 75 gallons should be used by the time the fish starts to reach adulthood.

Minimum Tank Size: The Raccon Butterfly prefers a tank of at least 75 gallons with plenty of places to hide & swim.

Water Conditions: Keep water quality high (SG 1.020 - 1.025, pH 8.1 - 8.4, Temp. 72 - 78° F).

Habitat: Found At Pacific Ocean, Indian Ocean, and Red Sea.

Feeding and Diet: If your Raccoon Butterflyfish is reluctant to feed, place a smaller anemone in the tank as it is difficult for them to resist eating them. Feed a varied diet of mysis shrimp. Marine and crustacean flesh as well as other commercially frozen preparations.

A smaller juvenile or sub-adult specimen will more readily adapt to its surroundings. Offer suitable carnivore fares.

Recommended Feedings: 2 to 3 times a day.

Breeding: The Raccon Butterfly Fish is an egg-scatterer.
