The Scissortail Goby also known as the Scissortail Dartfish has a white head and blue body with large dorsal and anal fins. The Scissortail Goby is a attractive slim fish which is easily recognized by their light bluish-gray front half and black back half coloration. They also have large dark gray dorsal and anal fins with black edging as well as the characteristic black 'scissors' coloration on their tail.

The Scissortail Goby fish is a member of the family Microdesmidae, which are referred to as dartfishes, close relatives of the popular Firefish. It is bicolored, with a greenish blue front half and a darker rear half. The tail, dorsal and anal fins are also dark. This is a durable aquarium species that will quickly adjust to a community aquarium that contains other passive species. It should be kept in pairs or groups, and can be housed with other Gobies.

The Scissortail Goby is a great aquarium choice for the non-aggressive, community aquarium - either fish-only or reef. Also known as the Black Fin Dartfish, the Scissortail Goby fish displays no aggression toward other fish, corals, or invertebrates, but care should be taken to ensure that other species do not pick on it. Its maximum size in the wild is around 5.5 inches. The Scissortail Goby prefers clean water and plenty of room to dart about. The smaller sizes sometimes display a black eye spot on the lower rear fin. The Scissortail Goby fish is a jumper and requires a covered aquarium.

The Scissortail Gobies make very good reef tank inhabitants. They like to burrow under rocks in the sand, but they spend the majority of their time in the middle of the tank cruising for food. They tend to get along with with their own kind as well as other fish in the tank. They prefer to have the company of their own kind and live in pairs in the wild as adults and small groups as juveniles.

General Size Specifications: The Scissortail Goby can grow upto 5 inches. These fish generally will come to you at 2 to 3 inches.

Tank Conditions: The Scissortail Goby fish do well within normal reef tank temperature ranges of 75-84°F.
