Wet & Dry Filter

Wet & Dry Filters, also known as Trickle Filters, are a type of Aquarium Filter that executes Biological Filtration for both, Marine as well as Freshwater Aquariums. Therefore, Wet & Dry Filters perform the triplet task of Oxygenation, Ammonia conversion, and Gaseous Exchange.

Based on installation, there are two types of Wet & Dry Filters. The ones that are mounted on the top of an aquarium and the others, the commonest ones, are installed below a tank. Water is introduced in these Wet & Dry Filters, which is then prefiltered by foam, wool, or any strainer placed on perforated Drip Plates. This prefiltered water then passes from the Drip Plate to the actual site of filtration, Filter Media, which usually are Bio Balls. CO2 is released and Oxygen is extracted, as there is contact between wastewater and Filter Media. Simultaneously, the beneficial Bacteria convert the toxic waste into harmless materials. Now, the water is released into the Sump, which in turn is equipped with filters.

Fresh Marine brings some interesting Wet & Dry Filter options from none other than CPR Aquatic. Let us take a look.

Overflow Box. An Overflow Box is usually integral to a Sump Filter. The Overflow Box is placed in the tank and if the water released by Wet & Dry Filters into the aquarium, is beyond the manageable level, the balance water flows to the Overflow Box. This water in the Overflow Box is then reverted to the Sump. Therefore, an Overflow Box helps keep the aquarium water level consistent.
  • CPR CS Series Overflow Boxes by CPR Aquatic. Meant for Glass or Acrylic Aquariums, these Overflow Boxes, help you alter your aquarium’s water level. The Black Top of these Overflow Boxes checks undesirable Algal growth, while the Plastic Screen omits any risk of Fish loss.
