The Zebra Moray not only has a unique appearance, it's the one of the most docile eels available, making it ideal foe a peaceful community tank. These eels rarely bother even the smallest fish. They feed on crustaceans, not fish. They are quite shy initially; a situation not uncommon to many eels. Like most morays, this eel will spend much of its time with its head protruding from under a rock or from a crevice during the day. However, in time it will become more brazen and move about in the open more when the aquarium is illuminated. Provide with plenty of hiding places.

The Zebra Moray Eel is an eyecatching and extremely docile species that derives its name from the bold pattern of bars on its body. Though rather reclusive, the reef safe Zebra Moray Eel is very peaceful and slow moving. It needs lots of rock in order to conceal its entire body, but once comfortable in its environment, it will venture out for food. Though very docile and compatible with fish, even other species of eel, its natural diet are crustaceans and it will readily snack on ornamentals.

The Zebra Moray Eel is an ideal moray for the community fish tank. It poses no threat to its fish tank mates or the aquarist, and is often out and about during the day rather than at night. A 125 gallon or larger aquarium must be provided with crevices for hiding that are large enough to conceal the eel's entire body.

Diet: The Gymnomuraena zebra is a carnivore and likes to eat meaty treats (like live feeder, fiddler crabs, small fish & grass shrimp). The Zebra Moray Eel diet should include sizeable portions of meaty foods, fresh fish including clams, squid, scallops, and shrimp.
