Swissguard Basslet - Liopropoma rubre: The Swales Swissguard Basslet, or Pacific Candy Basslet, is a beautiful addition to any saltwater aquarium. Its elongated body of red is adorned with alternating horizontal stripes of black and mustard-yellow, although in some lighting the black can actually appear silver. The dorsal and caudal fins have large black tips rimmed in a pale blue.

An excellent reef-dwelling fish, the Swissguard Basslet may only pose a threat to smaller, ornamental crustaceans. It has fantastic coloration, is exceptionally hardy and is very easy to care for.

Maximum Size: The Swissguard Basslet grows up to 3 inches.

General Size Specifications: The small size will come to you generally 1 to 2 inches; the medium generally 3 to 4 inches; the large generally 5 to 6 inches not including the caudal fin.

Minimum Tank Size Suggested: The Swissguard Basslet prefers a tank of over 30 gallons with plenty of places to hide & swim.

Water Conditions: 72-78°F; sg 1.020-1.025; pH 8.1-8.4; dKH 8-12

Habitat: Swissguard Basslet are found near Western Atlantic Ocean: Southern Florida, Bahamas, Caribbean, to northern South America

Natural Environment: They are sometimes found in small groups of six or more, and occur at depths between 40 to 200 feet (15 - 60 m).

Feeding and Diet: A typical meal for Swissguard Basslet consists mainly of zooplankton. Feed meaty/freeze-dried foodstuffs daily. May eat ornamental shrimp.
