The Eight Line Wrasse is a great fish for fish only tanks. Eight Line Wrasse is often mistakenly called "Twelve Line Wrasse”. These larger wrasses are a deep red orange with eight dark horizontal bands running along their body. They also have a white line beginning at the top of their mouth and running back along the top of their head. The Eight Line Wrasse comes from Hawaii and does well in the home aquarium, accepting most foods. Eight Line Wrasse are peaceful towards other fish, but should not be kept with similar wrasses.

Eight Line Wrasse is a salt water fish is found in regions of Indo-Pacific: East Africa to the Hawaiian and Ducie Islands, north to the Yaeyama Island; throughout Micronesia. This species has its pros and cons. Eight Line Wrasse are exceptionally hardy, easy to feed and readily available, but they are one of the most aggressive members of this genus. Do not keep more than one Eight Line Wrasse in the same tank or with other member of the genus. When first added to the aquarium Eight Line Wrasse will spend lots of time peering from cracks and crevices. But as it adjusts, Eight Line Wrasse will begin spending more time in the open, becoming as bold as most fish over time.

Eight Line Wrasse is reef compatible and safe with corals, but this fish is a greater threat to ornamental shrimps and small snails than its congeners because of its larger size. Eight Line Wrasse will aid the reef aquarist in controlling pyramidellid snails and commensal flatworms. Eight Line Wrasse is a carnivore. It feeds on a varied diet that includes a frozen prepared food for carnivores, minced table shrimp, and a good flake food.
