The Filamented Flasher Wrasse, also known as the Whip fin Fairy Wrasse and it originates from the waters of the Indo Pacific. The Filamented Flasher Wrasse is primarily red in color with a white underside. The fins are yellow with blue markings, and the dorsal fin is elongated. The color of the female is subdued when comparing it to the brilliance of the male. The male Filamented Flasher Wrasse during courting will change colors very rapidly giving it its common name. Colors may vary depending on the fish's mood. The dorsal rays of the males are very elongated. Filamented Flasher Wrasse an excellent substitute for harder to keep Anthias.

The Filamented Flasher Wrasse is salt water fish found in Western Pacific regions. It normally acts peacefully towards other fish. Filamented Flasher Wrasse is happiest in schools and is a bright addition to any peaceful system. The Filamented Flasher Wrasse is a very peaceful, active fish that will bring both color and activity to a fish only or reef aquarium. Filamented Flasher Wrasse gets along well with peaceful tank mates and should not be paired with aggressive fish. Filamented Flasher Wrasse will school with chromis and other schooling fish. The males will flash their beautiful fins as they attract females. Best kept with one male and 3 or more females.

The Filamented Flasher Wrasse is a medium maintenance fish .It may be handled by a moderately trained aquarist. Filamented Flasher Wrasse requires a 20 gallon or larger aquarium with a tight fitting lid to prevent escape since it is a jumper. A grouping is acceptable and often recommended, since the females will encourage the male to perform colorful displays. A single Filamented Flasher Wrasse male can be kept with a group of females that is introduced prior to or at the same time as the male. Normally females should be introduced into the tank first. Filamented Flasher Wrasse does not have any specific swimming level and can be kept in a tank set up of coral or rock and plants. The Filamented Flasher Wrasse is reef safe. In the wild, it is a plankton feeder. When first introduced into the aquarium, live saltwater feeder shrimp should be used to entice this fish to eat. Meals should consist of a variety of feeder shrimp, flaked foods, and marine meats. At least 3 feedings per day should be provided to keep this beautiful fish healthy.
