Lineatus Fairy Wrasse - Cirrhilabrus lineatus - Lined Fairy Wrasse: The Lineatus Fairy Wrasse originates from the waters of the Great Barrier Reef and the Coral Sea. They are very colorful, peaceful fish, that are not seen too often in the aquarium hobby. The dominant male of this species is more brilliantly colored when compared to the female/sub-dominant male. The female/sub-dominant male of this species has multiple blue horizontal lines covering the head and body, which break into spots as they progress towards the tail. The female/sub-dominant male will change into a dominant male if incorporated into the aquarium as the only fish of this species. These wrasse are one of the most beautiful fish in their family, and are highly sought after among many enthusiasts.
Lineatus Fairy Wrasse perhaps the most spectacular member of the genus. Cirrhilabrus lineatus is found only on the Great Barrier Reef to New Caledonia and Loyalty Islands. Found in isolated areas of outer reefs in deep water, collectors must venture beyond normal collection areas to find them. They are one of the sturdier Cirrhilabrus in the aquarium. All species of Cirrhilabrus are plankton feeders and have no interest in corals, clams, etc. and make ideal, peaceful choices for the reef aquarium. Cirrhilabrus lineatus is infrequently collected in small quantities.
The Lineatus Fairy Wrasse needs lots of rockwork as this is where it hides when frightened and at night finds a safe crevis to rest. An excellent substitute for harder to keep Anthias, Lineatus Fairy Wrasses are happiest in schools and are a bright addition to any peaceful system, but can only be kept as a single male with a few females.
